Claire Needham MA UKCPS

Scottish born, Fife-based artist, Claire Needham's work is based on everything portraiture, people, pets and wildlife.

Claire graduated in 2005 with an MA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from The University of Edinburgh.

After brief success with student shows, including exhibiting in the Royal Scottish Academy and selling work to the Scottish Arts Council, the career path was redirected toward the Events and Education sector.

In recent years Claire has left the events industry to focus on family life and channel her energy into her own artwork, in particular portraiture. Inspired by her love of art history and artists such as Lucian Freud.

Claire's art practice mainly focuses on exhibitions, creating original work for reproduction as prints/giftware and commissions.

Her style is detailed and based on realism, while also taking a painterly approach to capture the unique character and narrative of a subject.

A Signature Member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society (UKCPS), her work has been published in International Artist Magazines and books, as well as juried in several high profile exhibitions, including the Scottish Portrait Awards (longlist 2020, 2021, 2022), The RSA Annual Exhibition and The UKCPS Gala Exhibition in London.

Claire's work can be seen permanently in The Spence Gallery in Crieff and Cutting Corners Print and Picture Framing Studio in Dunfermline. Prints and Artisan Giftware are available to purchase at each venue and online.
